If a records portal needs an account, a captcha bypass, or a home address, it is out of scope.
Method
Public in, structured out, owner-gated before anything leaves the building.
Packet Press is lawful because it parses what a government already posted. It is careful because publish, spend, and messaging stay on a HOLD until a human owner says so.
The loop
- Intake. Fetch an already-public HTTP source. Redirects to private or loopback addresses are refused.
- Produce. Draft an internal brief as JSON: titles, dates, agencies, source URLs.
- Verify. Reject drafts with no source URL or no items.
- Hold. External publish does not run itself. That is an owner decision.
What we will not do
No marketplace hunting
Packet Press does not bid on Freelancer, does not reuse Money Hunter keys, and does not scrape personal inboxes.
No invented coverage
We do not claim every city, every vote, or “AI that understands local politics.”
No silent spend
Autonomous spend is $0. Safe mode is on.
Sources in the current sample
The live sample is built from the Federal Register public API. That is a stand-in for city packets, not the long-term beat. Each title and URL was retrieved from that public listing.
